Welcome to the Year 6 class page

The final year at Forest Park School is very busy. Much of the first part of the year is spent preparing for secondary school entrance examinations. Once these have been decided, it is time to prepare for the transition to secondary school.

Up to as late as February, there are entrance examinations to be sat, soon followed by the final decision as to which school to attend. We are here to encourage and support both children and parents throughout this period, with extra lessons and advice about all the options open to each family.

The pupils are given a lot more responsibility, from Head Boy and Girl, to taking ‘clubs’ for the younger children. All rise to this new challenge admirably. Lots of extra curricular activities are included, covering a wide range of experiences, for example, Bikeability, Crucial Crew, taking part in musical theatre, entertaining the elderly at Christmas, fund raising, educational visits and an adventure activity holiday in France. All this, and a wide range of sporting opportunities, are aimed at building each individual’s confidence in their own ability, with the aim of every child being willing to try a new experience, and not being afraid to fail.
