Reading
Ensuring your child learns what they need to progress.
Reading Culture at Forest Park School
At Forest Park School, reading sits at the very heart of everything we do, and we are proud to be a reading school.
Reading is one of the most powerful tools a young person can develop. It supports learning across every subject, strengthens communication, and allows students to explore new ideas, places, and perspectives. More importantly, it gives them the independence to learn, grow, and succeed far beyond the classroom.
We are incredibly proud of how our students embrace reading. Every day, across school, you will see students engaging with books, talking about what they’ve read and developing their own reading identities, whilst building ability, confidence and enthusiasm.
Of course, we recognise that reading is not easy for everyone. Every student is on their own journey. Some students arrive with a love of books already in place, while others need more support, encouragement, and time to build confidence. That’s why we are committed to providing a wide range of strategies to support all learners.
From guided reading sessions and targeted interventions to creating inviting reading spaces and offering a diverse selection of texts, we are working hard to ensure every student can find their way into reading. Staff across the school are dedicated to encouraging, supporting, and celebrating progress — no matter how big or small.
We know that fostering a love of reading takes time, patience, and consistency — but the impact is lifelong. By continuing to nurture this culture, we are helping our students build skills, confidence, and a passion for reading that will stay with them well into the future.
